Freegle Direct is the Freegle website and app for members. Behind it are the servers, software and database systems which, together with volunteers, are the heart of what Freegle does.
Here are links to pages explaining how Freegle Direct works for local members:
- ChitChat - community discussion/notice board
- Nearby browsing and rippling out - members no longer pick a group to post to; the community is worked out from their postcode. In Browse, the Nearby view is ordered by how far a post has rippled out and how close and fresh it is (not just by newest), with a Nearer / Further slider to widen or narrow the area. A reply to a post that hasn't reached the replier yet is held and sent automatically once it does. See Rippling out.
- Deadline expiry on posts - the poster is warned in advance in case they want to change their mind; once the deadline passes, the post is marked completed and no longer shown to freeglers.
- Events - how members can add their own event notice
- Feedback - system-generated statistics about members, visible to other members
- Member Ratings - the "thumbs up, thumbs down" system
- Old posts: if a member tries to add an item but the system brings up a previous post, it's usually because they were part-way through posting (or reposting) something. There's a button on screen to clear it. If members ask why they can't delete their list of old posts, see Sample message: Old posts.
- Photos
- Promise Button
- Publicity tools
- See details and reply - where a member replies to another member's Offer/Wanted message. For an Offer, they're also asked "When could you collect?", because it's generally helpful to be clear about this up front. If a member thinks the question is premature, they can enter anything, e.g. "TBA" or "TBC" (to be arranged/confirmed).
- Statistics
- Taken button - when a member marks an item Taken, an automated message goes to everyone who requested it, including whoever collected or was offered it.
- Unsubscribe, and Trouble unsubscribing
Sample Messages lists messages you can send members for various situations - some may also be useful as explanations of other aspects of using Freegle Direct.
