"Freegle Direct" refers to the Freegle website for members. Behind it are the servers, software and database systems which, along with volunteers, are the heart of what Freegle is and does.
Here are some links to pages and bits of information that explain some of the workings of Freegle Direct for local members.
- ChitChat – community discussion/ notice board
- Deadline expiration on posts – The poster gets warned in advance in case they want to change their mind, but once the deadline expires then the post is marked as completed and will no longer show to freeglers.
- Events – how members can add their own event notice
- Feedback – system generated statistics about members for other members
- Member Ratings – the 'thumbs up, thumbs down' system
- Old posts: if a member is trying to add an item but finds that the system is bringing up a previous post, this happens if they were part-way through posting (or reposting) something. There is a button on the screen to clear it. If members ask why they can't delete the list of old posts, see Sample message: Old posts
- See details and reply – this is where a member can reply to another member's Offer/Wanted message. If it is an Offer, the page also requires them to put in a response to "When could you collect?", because in practice we have found that it is generally helpful to be clear about this up front. However, if members consider this question premature, they can enter anything in this box, e.g. "TBA" or "TBC" (i.e. to be arranged/ confirmed).
- Taken Button – when a member uses the Taken button an automated message is sent to all those who have requested the item, including the freegler who has been offered or collected it.
The page Sample Messages lists some messages that can be sent to members for various reasons. You might find that some of those are useful as an explanation about other aspects of using Freegle Direct for members.
