Freegle Funding report 10/03/16 – 20/08/16
Covering group messages 553- 645.
We have 54 members as at 20/08, anyone else very welcome!
Topics discussed as follows:
- Chris drew up a list of https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bRYT4V98fCE4mKny6mPGgP2Vlcjt7SQd21vnq9zxXAo/edit?usp=sharingprojects for which funding was needed.
- Edward suggested that we should look at Cards for Causes, the exclusive members-only scheme from Give as you Live.
- Chris pointed us towards the UK REconomy Funding Database. reFund v.1.0
- The Tudor Trust rejected our application and told us not to reapply for 12 months.
- Chris suggested approaching waste management companies to ask for funding to run Freegle. A discussion followed about the ethics of this and advertising waste companies. Further research shows that the companies seemed to have trusts which distributed money to local rather than national projects. http://www.rwmexhibition.com/Content/Overview-of-the-UK-Waste-Market
- Edward had a possible contact - http://www.raygeorgesonresources.co.uk
- David suggested approaching WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Distributor Take Back Scheme local project fund, but it was found that applications had to be from local authorities, and the deadline has passed.
- Elaine attended a meeting of Penrith Town Council to present a summary of the work that Freegle had done locally. Chris had produced this excellent presentation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1t-BjQ0tA52y-aVZeJ-S16Cik9Ct2mucfObVukyvLTEE/edit?usp=sharing
- Jacky now regularly forwards 3 funding newsletters to the group – Green Grants machine newsletter, j4b Community Funding and one from Funding Central. There are also occasional training events highlighted.
- Liz circulated information about Skipton Building Society small grants.
- Chris pointed out that the government was consulting about the direction of the Big Lottery fund, and Edward was going to speak to his contact at DEFRA.
- Jacky brought this article to our attention - http://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2016/06/24/charity-sector-responds-to-brexit-vote/
- Chris highlighted this opportunity for crowd funding...Hugh's War on Waste | Crowdfunder.co.uk
