Freegle Funding Report 21/08/16 – 18/10/16

This report covers messages 645 -740.

We have 52 members as at 18/10, anyone else very welcome!

Topics discussed as follows:

Funding newsletters

Jacky continues to forward 3 funding newsletters to the group – Green Grants machine newsletter, j4b Community Funding and one from Funding Central. There are also occasional training events highlighted.

Funding Opportunities

Lorraine sent in this link showing funding opportunities. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hof2W4NH3hQ_3QxcUOvt6TRGz7i_dOJioCIog-eaf2A/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=1041358279

Chris spotted a funding opportunity with Aviva, which had an environmental section. https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/acfcms/about-the-competition

A discussion followed on the lines that we didn’t have anyone to apply for funding opportunities, and Chris came up with some draft project pro-formas that we could develop and tweak as necessary.

  • a) for a local group to get funding to run a Give and Take:

  • c)for revamping the mobile app, which the board may fund:

  • d) for getting more stats on what we do:

  • e) for funding to continue to pay Edward to do IT.

A discussion followed on sustainability, capacity, appealing to funders, and the way forward. The aim is to have a set of projects which could be adapted to suit local groups and funding opportunities.

Chris sent the draft pro formas to the Waste Prevention Officer at Cumbria County Council, who was happy with them; she mentioned involvement with Barrow Freegle. Chris also produced a one page document about Give and Takes. https://docs.google.com/ document/d/14fcWsqRsrEphk_ AelAmnZtpdruX4O0_Nuuu88ReO9e0/ edit?usp=sharing

A “to do” list has been established, here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gMP64YmnMprtQjyGU3bV1ghIMghUvb-k-S-xbpycVBg/edit?usp=sharing

Local Funding

Lorraine enquired about setting up a local constitution and bank account to apply for a grant to help with equipment for Give and Takes. Various group members helped with sending information as to how this could be done with money being channelled into the main Freegle account and ring-fenced for her group.

Ebay prize

Edward spotted an opportunity with eBay for charity, where prizes of up to £7,000 will be awarded based on numbers of votes cast for a favourite charity in October. Chris did some investigation and started the ball rolling.

Liz did an email to Central with a suggested admin, followed by a second, with input from Dominic; Cat has done facebook posts and tweets; Edward has put prompts on daily digests and when people have freegled successfully; Dominic has composed an email for us to send to contacts. David is going to send out a special notice on Central next weekend.

As things stand, we are in the lead, and hope that we can maintain this. It may be possible to do a bulk mail to members when Edward returns. It has been great to see people pulling together, as we did with Microsoft, although there has been some discussion over how often and when the admins should be sent.
