Report for Freegle Mentors May 2017

Mentor Team

Mentors currently have 10 members and 1 Board observer.

Alison, Christian, Cooky, David, Diz, Jacqui, Jo and Tom. Sheila Little is the team coordinator Wanda is acting co-coordinator. Andy Ludlow is our Board observer.

Support Offered

Holiday season is upon us again. If you are going away, please don’t leave your group unattended and unmoderated, please contact us at mentors@ilovefreegle.org and we can get a mentor on board to help you out, who will be happy to be removed on your return. You can just remove us from the mods list on your return.

Mentors are here to help groups any way we can. If you are struggling to cope, please let us know, we are happy to help out.

If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, mentors can be contacted in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.

Work this Month

May started off with Frome Freecycle joining the organisation and merging with the Frome Freegle. After GAT approved the merger, mentors moved the Freecycle group to Freegle. The Frome Freegle had been on the caretaker list for several months, so thanks to the Frome team we now have one less group to care for.

Trafford was also removed from the caretaker list after Jean managed to recruit an ex owner from Salford who has now moved to Trafford.

We trained new moderators for 2 existing groups in May. For the Trafford group we welcomed Ottillie, and on Flintshire we welcomed Wendy. We also showed Pam, the new moderator for Inverness how modtools works.

We had another group added to the caretaker list this month. Bromsgrove had been abandoned, but we managed to contact the owner who handed it to Freegle to look for new moderators.

Mentors have been helping out on Bolton for some time now. We trained a new moderator several months ago, who we recently promoted to owner, but we were still mentoring her and were hoping to recruit. The Trafford group owner was looking for another local group to help out on and keep herself occupied and volunteered to help on a group in the area. Bolton was the only group needing help close to Trafford and so now Julie has joined the Bolton mod team and that group is now secure again.

We are still gradually moving the caretaker groups over to being native and three more groups will have the Yahoo side of things closed down in the next week.

There are currently 35 groups listed on the caretaker list needing new owners and 11 that are being cared for temporarily. These include some groups being cared for by non mentors. Since the list began, permanent new owners have been found for another 36 groups.
