Report for Freegle Mentors Team

Mentors Team

Mentors currently have 9 members and 1 Board observer.

Mentors are:

Christian, Diz, David, Tom, Cooky, Jo and Alison. Sheila is the team coordinator Wanda is acting co-coordinator and Andy is our Board observer.

The team are a hard working team who are all very stretched and we really could do with some fresh volunteers. All you need is patience and the ability to moderate and help another group owner to moderate, or to run an extra group or two. You also need to be happy to follow best practice guidelines on any group that is nationally owned and to use a fixed set of rules to moderate caretaker groups . If you think you can be a mentor, please get in touch at mentors@ilovefreegle.org Please bear in mind some of these groups may need long term caretaking as volunteers can be difficult to find.

All Caretaker groups are added to modtools. It takes a few minutes extra each time you moderate to clear the messages on extra groups.

Recent Activity

This month mentors have had no new groups added to the caretaker list for the first time in several months.

The new Bradford moderators have been moderating the group for over three months now and are doing so well, they have decided they would like to run the group permanently as the new owners. Sheila will be remaining on board as a mentor for at least the next few months.

Mentors have been working to try and encourage some of the groups not currently using Freegle Direct, to have it added. Edward sends us regular lists of the groups currently not using FD and we have emailed each one, offering Jeans help to install it on groups. To help Jean with what could be a mammoth task, Wanda has been working alongside Jean to learn how to install Freegle Direct and how to link it up with Twitter and Facebook.

We individually emailed eighty five groups and we had just four replies asking us to add Freegle Direct. One was from an owner with two groups, so we have five new groups using Freegle Direct as a result of those emails. Just four replies from eighty five emails was a lot less than we had hoped for, so we will be emailing groups again over the coming weeks.

We have been helping a group in the West Country with recruiting new moderators and have a new volunteer who we hope will join the team after a little training on our Freshers group.

We haven’t had many requests for help with holiday cover yet. With the peak season upon us, we are hearing of groups being left to manage for a week or two while mods are away. If you have a holiday coming up, please don’t leave your group unmoderated, we are happy to help with cover. Contact us on mentors@ilovefreegle.org we are happy to be removed from the mods list on your return.

If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, mentors can be contacted in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.
