Report for Freegle Mentors
July/August 2015
The mentor team is a small team of hard working moderators who are here to help if any group needs us to cover. We also care for groups that have been given up by their owners. If anyone feels they would be able to help a new group owner by becoming a mentor, please do contact us. We are very short handed and really need some fresh volunteers.
Mentors are available for holiday so that groups don't need to be left unattended while the owner is away, so anyone planning a holiday who has no mods to run the group , please do let us help rather than leave your group unmoderated while you are away.

This month we start with the good news that two groups were removed from the Caretaker list and taken over by surrounding groups. Battle is now being run by Liz from Lewes and Seahaven and by Melissa from Bexhill. Haywards Heath has also been taken on permanently by Alison Burgess and Jane Loveday . In addition, Dee of Croydon group is, moderating Catford with a view to taking it on as a permanent group. Thanks to all five for lightening the load a little.
We also had a new addition to the caretaker list. Durham Freegle has been handed over by its owner who, after 10 years of running the group cannot find anyone who is prepared to take over from her.
We have spent some time discussing a set of basic rules that all mentors will use on caretaker groups. It was decided in a discussion on Development that we should create a very basic set of rules that will be applied to all the groups being run centrally by mentors. The rules will be as relaxed as possible and when we have got them together we will take them to Development to be endorsed. Once settled we will also have a basic configuration created for use on modtools with caretaker groups.

There is still just one group that is being mentored for its first six months.

The mentor team is looking for new mods to help out. if anyone thinks they may be able to mentor a new group owner or caretake a group that has been handed over for Freegle to run centrally, please contact us at mentors@ilovefreegle.org It isn't hard, you just need to be there to answer questions for new group owners. Caretaker groups are added to modtools. It takes a few minutes extra each time you moderate to clear the messages on a second group.
If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, please contact mentors in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.
