Freegle Reps Report 2012-10-31

We’ve carried on discussing the future strategy for Freegle and proposals to be presented at the AGM which runs on Freegle Central between 19 and 25 November..

Public Liability Insurance

We now have some insurance. The wiki page explains the policy and how volunteers can make use of it locally.

B & Q

Freegle is to be included on B & Q’s website

Business Cards

We had £530 left of the £1200 donation by Alex Hildyard, Edinburgh. Some of this has been used to purchase 5,000 more business cards for groups and 2,000 for use by Cat, media. Priority is being given to those Groups who requested them last time and got none or very few.

Bigger Picture Photography Competition

Cat’s photo was one of the 12 finalists in this competition[b] via the Charity Bank but sadly didn’t get enough votes to win money for Freegle.

Barcroft Media

Cat has been filmed by them for a newspaper and magazine piece, the focus being on how Freegle helps with economic challenges.

Helen’s Run

Helen, Tower Hamlets and Stirling ran for Freegle on 21 October and raised an amazing £592.50 (with gift aid) for Freegle. We are very grateful to her for making such a substantial contribution to Freegle funds - thank you Helen!

Cat submitted two applications for Freegle for two Nesta prizes for which we weren’t shortlisted unfortunately.

Institute for Volunteering Research

Edward has had discussions with this organisation about possible participation in research on microvolunteering.

iT4Communities are listing a couple of tech volunteer opportunities for us. We can follow them on Facebook and Twitter

Visceral Business

have also agreed to include us in future reports and plans.

Abandoned Groups

We’re continuing to investigate and deal with the reports of abandoned groups that we have received.

Workplace Freegle

The Commonwealth Secretariat contacted us to ask for help with their Environmental Awareness Day and to ask if they could have a facility for freegling within their workplace. Cat visited them on their open day, did a presentation and helped them with a Freegle table. Through the cooperation of Peter Morris, Westminster Freegle, the Group Affiliation Team, Structure Working Group, Edward and Cat we’re very happy to say that The Commonwealth Secretariat now have an inhouse Freegle group for their Westminster workplace.

Group Affiliation Team (GAT)

In view of a backlog of work on GAT we agreed that Alison Redway should step down from Rep Observer on GAT in order to help with casework. An additional Rep Observer will be put in place in due course.
