Bouncing members
A bouncing member is someone who isn't receiving email messages from your community - their email account may have been closed or deleted, or the mailbox may be full. Either way, they can't participate properly in your community.
ModTools treats an email address as bouncing if:
- we've had more than 50 "soft" bounces from it (some kind of temporary failure), or
- we've had more than 3 "hard" bounces from it (the address looks invalid)
To see which of your members are bouncing, go to Members > Approved, then select Bouncing from the drop-down options. Against each member you have the option to click Reactivate in the pink bouncing announcement panel.
Members can also see, when they log into the site, that they're bouncing, and can reactivate themselves by clicking the button.
You can check this list regularly and try to reactivate your bouncing members. If you've reactivated them several times over a period of months and they haven't posted or seem inactive for a long time, you can remove them - they can easily rejoin if they wish. (There has been an intention to add a bulk action to ModTools to reactivate and/or remove bouncing members in one go.)
