The Board appoints the following Portfolio Leads. The current Leads are detailed on Freegle Board.
Lead for Technology & Innovation
- Primary Focus: Digital Platform and Infrastructure.
- Key Responsibilities: Acting as the Board-level liaison for technical volunteers and developers.
- Ensuring the platform roadmap aligns with the organisation’s strategic goals.
- Overseeing data security and GDPR compliance.
- Success looks like: A stable, modern platform that meets user needs safely.
Lead for Volunteer Engagement
- Primary Focus: Community Health and Retention.
- Key Responsibilities: Ensuring Freegle volunteers (moderators, etc.) feel supported and heard.
- Overseeing the implementation of the Volunteer Code of Conduct.
- Developing strategies to recruit new volunteers in areas of need.
- Success looks like: High volunteer morale and a diverse, active community of helpers.
Lead for Fundraising & Partnerships
- Primary Focus: Income Generation and Sustainability.
- Key Responsibilities: Leading the development of a rolling 12-month Fundraising Strategy.
- Identifying grant opportunities and corporate partners that align with Freegle’s values.
- Oversight of donor journeys and individual giving appeals.
- Success looks like: A diversified income stream that reduces reliance on any single source.
Lead for Communications & PR
- Primary Focus: Brand, Voice, and Visibility.
- Key Responsibilities: Protecting and promoting Freegle’s reputation in the UK.
- Overseeing social media strategy and public-facing campaigns.
- Ensuring consistent messaging across all platform communications.
- Success looks like: Increased public awareness of Freegle and positive media coverage.
Lead for Legal, Risk & Safeguarding
- Primary Focus: Organisational Protection.
- Key Responsibilities: Maintaining the organisational Risk Register.
- Ensuring safeguarding policies are up-to-date and robust.
- Advising the Board on legal liabilities and insurance requirements.
- Success looks like: A Board that is aware of its risks and has clear plans to mitigate them.
Lead for Impact & Strategy
- Primary Focus: Measuring Success and Future-Proofing.
- Key Responsibilities: Defining the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for the organisation (e.g., tonnes diverted from landfill).
- Leading the annual strategy review process.
- Ensuring that "Impact Data" is available to support fundraising and PR efforts.
- Success looks like: Clear evidence that Freegle is achieving its environmental and social goals.
