4.2 Funding

Overall, Freegle’s finances are in a reasonably healthy position, however we generally rely quite heavily on individual donations – between 2018 and 2020, at least 47 % of Freegle’s total came from this income stream.

In a normal year, Freegle spends £29k more than it brings in, but over the past few years we have managed to make the most of some opportunities from PayPal, which have counteracted this. For example, in 2023, Freegle received £73,000 from the PayPal Small Charities campaign.

Advertising is another substantial source of our income, averaging 24% over most years. For the last three years, we have secured council funding totalling between 3% and 9% of our total income.

As a Director of Freegle, we would expect you to support any of our fundraising objectives and initiate any suitable campaigns that can help bring in more income.
