Report for Freegle Mentors August 2017

The Team

Mentors currently have 10 members and 1 Board observer.

The Mentor team are:
Alison, Christian, Cooky, David, Diz, Jacqui, Jo and Leon. Sheila Little is the team coordinator; Wanda is acting co-coordinator. Andy Ludlow is our Board observer.

Mentors welcomed Leon Chamberlain to the team after he answered an appeal for new mentors on Central last month. He is already mentoring one of two new groups launched this month and we are very grateful for his offer to help.

Work this month

August has been spent busily transferring groups from yahoo to Native hosting. Several groups have asked us to do the transfer for them and change the Yahoo groups to pointer groups. The moves have been done alongside moves of several caretaker groups so there are now another 22 groups on Native hosting.

No groups were handed over during August, but two groups were groups were removed from the list as Ruth has decided she has enough mods to keep Llyn Peninsula stable and Llanelli has been taken by a neighbouring moderator.

We are currently trying to contact three absent group owners after the groups were reported as possibly abandoned.

Kettering was reported as having been abandoned by its owner. An active mod was unable to promote new help so he can take a break. After attempts to contact the owner failed, the group was declared as abandoned and an FD group with the active mod as the new owner with all the original members is now up and running properly again.

Caretaker Groups

There are currently 31 groups listed on the caretaker list needing new owners and 11 that are being cared for temporarily. These include some groups being cared for by non mentors. Since the list began, permanent new owners have been found for another 39 groups.

We come again to the list of groups under the care of caretakers. If any mod teams local to any of these groups would like to take any of these groups on as permanent new owners, please contact us.

If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, mentors can be contacted in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.
