Report for Freegle Mentors September 2017

The Team

Mentors currently have 10 members and 1 Board observer.

The Mentor team are:
Alison, Christian, Cooky, David, Diz, Jacqui, Jo and Leon.
Sheila Little is the team coordinator Wanda is acting co-coordinator.
Andy Ludlow is our Board observer.


Work this Month

September has again been spent mostly moving groups to native hosting. Several group owners asked for help with this task. To date we have moved 28 groups. 18 of those are caretaker group.

We are in the process of moving another 12 groups.

Sadly, the owner of Purbeck Freegle has passed away. She was a lone moderator on the group. With nobody able to gain access to the Yahoo group, we have had no other option but to disaffiliate the group. The group was never on Freegle Direct so we will start the group afresh on Freegle Direct.

If you are a lone moderator on the group, please consider getting a backup owner. It is vital that someone is able to access your group if anything happens to you. So even if it is a neighbouring mod on special notices, or someone from the mentor team with owner status sitting silently in the background, please get a back up on board - none of us are promised a tomorrow anything can happen.

Isle of Wight Freegle was added to the caretaker list this month after the owner decided he didn’t want to run it any more.

South Derbyshire was also added to the list of groups we are helping out while the owner is unwell. Hopefully she will be back soon.

We are currently trying to contact two absent group owners after the groups were reported as possibly abandoned.


Caretaker Groups

There are currently 32 groups listed on the caretaker list needing new owners and 12 that are being cared for temporarily. These include some groups being cared for by non mentors. Since the list began, permanent new owners have been found for another 39 groups.

We come again to the list of groups under the care of caretakers. If any mod teams local to any of these groups would like to take any of these groups on as permanent new owners, please contact us.

Mentors are here to help groups any way we can. If you are struggling to cope, please let us know, we are happy to help out.

If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, mentors can be contacted in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.
