Halogen and Fluorescent bulbs

The sale of halogen light bulbs was banned in September 2021 and fluorescent lights from September 2023.

Although banned, bulbs 'in the market' can still be sold and used, so any working light bulb of these types can be gifted or requested on Freegle.

Spent/dead light bulbs are considered hazardous waste, so have to be disposed of through local authority arrangements.

Exemptions are in place for lamps designed and marketed specifically for scene-lighting use in film studios, TV studios, and photographic studios, or for stage-lighting use in theatres or other entertainment events.
