Halogen and fluorescent bulbs
The sale of halogen light bulbs was banned in September 2021, and fluorescent lights in September 2023.
Although banned from sale, bulbs "already in the market" can still be sold and used - so any working bulb of these types can be offered or requested on Freegle.
Spent or dead light bulbs count as hazardous waste, so must be disposed of through local authority arrangements.
There are exemptions for lamps designed and marketed specifically for scene-lighting in film, TV or photographic studios, or for stage-lighting in theatres or other entertainment venues.
