Group Publicity/Media Volunteers

It would be ideal to have at least two volunteers in each group who are willing to take on the work of promoting the group, as the work ranges from very regular social media contact to occasional PR events. Of course the work can be taken on by volunteers doing other work for the group, such as moderating! The specs below describe the range of promotional skills and work that would be great to have in each group:

Role specification

  • promote Freegle on social media
  • research and find news stories and photos about reuse
  • engage traditional media (local papers, radio) and non-traditional (bloggers, tweeters, vloggers)
  • produce and distribute press releases
  • compile list of media contacts
  • run local promotional events

Person specification

  • enthusiastic
  • outgoing
  • online a lot
  • likes Twitter/Facebook and other social media
  • enjoys talking to new people
  • sympathetic and patient
  • helpful and friendly
  • committed to freegling and reuse
  • locally based

Time commitment

Difficult to state, but the nature of some of the work requires almost daily input while other things are time limited (eg.events).

Support and Procedures

Apart from working with the group moderating team, there are national opportunities to share experiences, ask questions and get support. Local Social Media Guidelines document lays out the expectations of running a social media account in the name of Freegle. The portal Publicity provide relevant information for a whole range of promotion ideas.
