There are several schemes that encourage sharing books for free, keeping them in circulation and out of recycling bins or landfill.

  • http://bookmooch.com/ - a free international service with a points system: you need to give away at least one book for every two you receive
  • http://www.bookcrossing.com/ - a community of book lovers who share books by adding a BookCrossing label and "releasing" them into the wild, then logging in to see who finds them and where they end up
  • Supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco often have a small area for book donations, which are then sold for a local charity
  • All charity shops take books

Books can also be sold on eBay, Gumtree, local Facebook selling groups, WeBuyBooks and similar - it's worth encouraging any route that keeps books in circulation.
