This remit was adopted by the Board at their meeting of 29th October 2014.

Working Space and Contact

The working space for GAT is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newgroupsforfreegle

Contact with the team can be made via email.

GAT uses a confidential google spreadsheet to record key data on all applications.

Role

GAT is a small closed team that assesses and processes applications to affiliate new Freegle groups in accordance with Freegle policy and procedures.

Remit

  • To assess applications for new or existing groups to affiliate with Freegle.
  • To ask the most active re-use groups which already cover the area if they would like to discuss the possibility of affiliating with Freegle instead of a new group being formed.
  • To consult with local Freegle groups, whilst researching and taking into account the geography, demography and population size which is likely to support the ethos of Freegle as a local resource.
  • To consult with, as appropriate, the Board, Freegle UK Central Group and the Structure Working Group.
  • To process applications for affiliation in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To give monthly reports to Freegle UK Central Group with statistics of enquiries and pending, rejected and approved applications. The Report links to be listed on the Freegle Wiki for reference
  • To ensure that groups approved by GAT are listed on the Freegle website and launched appropriately.
  • To deal with all affiliation enquiries from within the UK; GAT does not have a mandate to approve groups outside the UK.
  • To identify areas where new groups should be encouraged.

Membership

The current members can be found in the WhosWho spreadsheet.

If GAT need additional team members, the vacancy will be advertised on Freegle UK Central Group and/or GAT will approach likely candidates. Any Freegle Volunteer can apply and also have the opportunity to log their interest at any time via the Volunteer Coordinator. GAT will record the selection process/rationale and will decide who they would like to join the team. This decision must have the support of all of the GAT members. The name(s) will be put forward to the Board for ratification and the decision will then be final. The Board Observer has authority to act on behalf of the Board for the purposes of ratification. A list of the names of suitable candidates who were not selected will be retained by GAT and the Board for consideration for future vacancies.

Selection Criteria

The candidate must be a Freegle Volunteer and be able to demonstrate relevant experience. The full range of desirable skills and experience will be included in the membership application form and will include:

  • Time and type of involvement in Freegle Yahoo groups
  • Good communication skills
  • Respect for confidentiality
  • Ability to research and understand different areas of the UK

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified and private feedback can be requested from the GAT.

Conflict of Interest

Any member of GAT who believes they have any conflict of interest in respect of a particular group affiliation application will not be part of the decision making process for that group but can provide local background if required.

Director Observer

There will always be a Director observer member on the GAT Yahoo group. The Board will nominate one of their number for this task. The observer's main role is to ensure GAT follow the rules. The observer will seek to spot if a particular case highlights general matters of policy and issues which cross working groups and team boundaries. The observer will act on behalf of the Board and will ratify proposals for new members of the team as appropriate. The observer works within the Board Observer Guidelines.
