====What is trash nothing?====
A lot of new members join Freegle groups via TN, so they are a valuable resource.  The TN site and apps are closely integrated with Freegle and TN works as alternate interface for Freegle groups. TN members are able to browse, reply to and submit offers and requests (and edit their offers and requests).  TN members can also see and respond to chats on TN or by email. TN members can also view thumbs up/down information and member profiles on TN.
The trash nothing site and mobile apps provide two separate services, free email accounts and free hosting for freecycling groups. This page discusses how the free email accounts work and how people use them to become members of freecycling groups on Yahoo Groups. ====How do trash nothing email accounts work?====
TN members can’t see events, volunteer opportunities or the chitchat section that is on Freegle.
The email accounts provided by trash nothing are designed to make freecycling quicker and easier. Everyone who signs up gets a free trash nothing email account they can use to subscribe to freecycling groups on Yahoo Groups. Thousands of freecycling members and moderators around the world are already using trash nothing to improve their freecycling experience!


====Why is the group I moderate listed on trash nothing?====
TN members can control their profile information and account settings at: https://trashnothing.com/beta/settings  There are two choices when it comes to TN user names - the first part of the member's email address, or a name of the member's choice (i.e. whatever is put in the “name” box). There is a tickbox for “use name”. If that’s not ticked TN will use the first part of the email address.  
We maintain a list of free recycling groups around the world as a convenience to people looking to subscribe to their local free recycling groups with trash nothing email accounts.''
How do TN do this?
The trash nothing site has code that scans online directories of reuse
groups (Freegle, ReUseItNetwork, etc) to find when new groups are
created. As part of this process, any open membership groups that are
discovered are automatically listed on trash nothing.


====How do I get the group I moderate added or removed fromto trash nothing?====
Just send us a message with the group web site and we'll add or remove from  to our list.''


====How do I EDIT my TrashNothing group settings eg getting links removed from messages, set up wanted and offers limits etc?====
Some members get confused between the two sites. How it works is:
If you want the TrashNothing links removed from messages posted via TN members on your group simply ask Andrew from TN to remove links-he will. He will also give you a link so you can make further adjustments to settings for TN members on your group.

If you amend your auto emails like the handbook  etc,  you can ask Andrew to update his records as he tends to have copies of what is linked to on the groups at the time he adds them and they aren't updated.
====TN Member Moderation/Group Settings====
There is [https://trashnothing.com/moderator/group-settings a moderators page] where you can specify things like what format TN subject lines are in and if/how crossposting is allowed.

It is probably worth checking which other TN groups are in your area so you are aware of the groups your TN members might also be members of, in case of queries etc.  You might also wish to become a TN member so you are aware what your members can see and how the site operates from a member’s point of view.
   
   
Same for the Fair Offer Policy (FOP) which in TN is set as 'I'll give it 24 hrs' but you may prefer a less specific period of time and he will change that for your group if you want him to.
Once you access the moderator page it’s pretty much self explanatory but worth telling your team why they are getting weird TN messages in group chat etc.
 
====Why would people want to use trash nothing instead of the Yahoo Groups web interface or their normal email accounts?====

You can set the location format in Preferred Subject Line Location:

A lot of moderators have these problems and waste valuable time and energy fixing them every time a new member joins or a new spammer shows up. With trash nothing email accounts, these problems disappear!''

The newest version of the TN site and apps gives members full control over the exact location where the map is centered every time that the member posts. If you notice a TN post with an incorrect map location in the future, you can simply ask the TN member to edit their post to correct the location that the map shows.

A member can compose one message and then select multiple groups to send that to (Freegle, Freecycle or some others).  There is no need to compose a separate message for each group.  If they don't select any groups it goes to nearby TN members only.

When a TN member crossposts to multiple groups on TN, their post may get published on one group and then become promised before another group approves the post. This can sometimes be confusing for Freegle moderators because Freegle moderators only see posts from other Freegle groups in ModTools and not from non-Freegle groups on TN. There are also cases where people post on TN and crosspost on other sites or apps.


====Can I still kick / ban / moderate people who use trash nothing?====
When a TN member only posts to a single Freegle group, that post won’t be published on the Freegle group on FD or TN until the moderators of the Freegle group approve the post.
Yes. People with trash nothing email accounts are normal email members of groups on Yahoo Groups so moderators are always in complete control of the group and the group membership.''


====How do I know if people are using trash nothing?====
When a Freegle moderator rejects a post from a TN member, that post will not show up on the Freegle group on FD or TN.
You can easily identify trash nothing users by the email address they use to subscribe and post to a group. All trash nothing users email addresses end with @user.trashnothing.com''


====How can I tell what IP address a trash nothing user has?====
When a Freegle moderator edits a post from a TN member, the edits will show up on the Freegle group on FD and TN.
Emails sent using trash nothing email accounts contain the user's IP address in the X-trash-nothing-User-IP header.''

TN members sometimes report problems with TN to Freegle moderators. The current best practice is to refer TN members to the TN help section where they can find answers or contact TN.

The trash nothing site works using the standard Yahoo Groups email subscription and membership process that allows any email address (whether from Gmail, Hotmail or trash nothing) to subscribe to and receive email from a group on Yahoo Groups. In this way, every trash nothing user has a valid email subscription to the groups they are accessing with their personal trash nothing email account.''

False. There is nothing built-in to our email accounts that causes spamming. All emails to groups and group members are sent by people using our site. People using our email accounts may attempt to send spam posts to a group or send spam emails to members but we have aggressive spam filters that try to prevent this kind of abuse. Spamming is against our terms of service, and if we discover someone spamming, we will immediately kick the person off our service. ''
