Report for Freegle Mentors April 2016
Mentors currently have 10 members and 1 Board observer.
Mentors are there to advise new Group Owners in their first 6 months of set up as required and continuously thereafter, if still needed, we give support to struggling groups. We are caretakers for groups that have been given up by their owners and we contact groups that are not being actively moderated to offer help.
If you know of any group that is being left unmoderated for long periods, mentors can be contacted in strictest confidence. We would rather help out and get things back on track before a group ends up being abandoned.
We are sorry to have lost Amanda as a team member this month. She decided to leave mentors and concentrate on her own groups. Amanda was the co-coordinator and a valued member of the team, we were sorry to see her go. Amandas leaving has left mentors short of a co-coordinator, but Wanda has stepped in temporarily to help out until a new co-coordinator can be found.
Tina has also decided that she is not active on the team and so is standing down as a mentor. We hope she may rejoin us when she is in a better position to do so.
We placed an admin on Central and Christine (Cooky) smythe from Barrow Freegle came to our aid and has joined the team to help lighten the load. However we still could use more volunteers on the team.
Once again this month the caretaker groups list has increased with two more groups being handed to mentors. Bradford was given up by its owner and we advertised for new moderators immediately. We had a fair response and now already have two moderators fully trained on modtools running the group. So it is once again in the hands of a local mod team. South Tyneside was also handed over. As it had not been moderated for many months there are very few members still using the site and so it is likely to be under mentors control for some time while posts and membership builds again.
Mentors helped Edward to set up some easy start up instructions for helping groups new to motools to set up. These can be found in the wiki here http://wiki.ilovefreegle.org/ModTools
There has been continuing work on the caretaker configuration for modtools and a few more auto emails have been added to it.
The list below is just for the groups that are currently centrally owned and need new owners and mods. This month two new groups were added to the list, but one Was removed within a week or so of being added.
If any mod teams local to any of these groups would like to take any of these groups on as permanent new owners, please contact us

The mentor team is still looking for new mods to help out. if anyone thinks they may be able to mentor a new group owner or caretake a group that has been handed over for Mentors to find new owners, please contact us at mentors@ilovefreegle.org . Please bear in mind some of these groups may need long term caretaking as volunteers can be difficult to find.
All Caretaker groups are added to modtools. It takes a few minutes extra each time you moderate to clear the messages on extra groups.
