Depending on their age, some of these products may have been withdrawn from sale or use, lost potency, or may not work as expected. Any out-of-date products should be disposed of safely, not used.

Some traditional remedies have been banned; on the other hand, some brands have been reformulated to stay legal.

Insecticides containing acetamiprid, clothianidin, imidacloprid, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam are banned, due to the damage they cause to bees.

The Royal Horticultural Society lists the active ingredients that have been withdrawn, so Freegle members can dispose of banned products safely - or, if in doubt, recipients can check whether a product is still usable.
