Vintage car parts can contain asbestos, particularly:
Brake Components: Drum brake shoes, disc brake pads, and parking brake linings. Dust accumulated inside brake drums is often highly concentrated with friable asbestos fibres.
Clutch Assemblies: Clutch discs (friction plates) and pressure plate linings regularly contained chrysotile asbestos.
Gaskets & Seals: Engine head gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, carburetor base gaskets, and valve cover gaskets.
Insulation & Heat Shields: Firewall insulation padding, transmission tunnel heat shields, hood liners, and exhaust pipe heat wraps.
Electrical System: Vintage alternator/generator internal insulation, wire looms, ignition coil wrappings, and fuse box backing plates.
Body & Interior: Underbody soundproofing/undercoating, body seam sealers, and sound-dampening felt pads under carpets.
