From Freegle Wiki

Occasionally a member gets upset and accuses us of sending spam. Here's the position we take.

When a member signs up and logs in to our website, they see "Terms of Use Apply" under the sign-in options. Our Terms say we'll email members posts, replies, events and newsletters, and that they can control this in Settings.

When a new member signs up, they get a "Thanks for joining Freegle" email, which includes "You can change your settings by clicking here", linking to their Settings tab on the website.

Every email Freegle sends includes an unsubscribe link, letting the member stop any particular type of email they don't want, except essential admin mails. Members can't opt out of admin mails that local volunteers classify as "essential" rather than "newsletter".

We take the view that we've complied with data protection requirements on marketing. Our data protection pages on this wiki are grouped together in Category:Data Protection.
