This Month

Mentors have spent the last few months concentrating on group moves to Native hosting. The last caretaker group is now being moved and we have a few groups around the country we are moving to native for the owners.

All groups need to move away from Yahoo groups by the end of September this year. Group moves are completed over a two week period in most cases. We anticipate a mad rush come August, so if you would like Mentors to help you to move, please contact us and get the move done sooner rather than at the last minute.

There are still a few groups who do not have Freegle Direct added and are not using Modtools. These groups need to add Freegle Direct as soon as possible. As of September, Freegle will no longer support Yahoo groups. If your group isn’t on Freegle Direct yet and you need help with both Modtools and adding Freegle Direct, please drop us an email to mentors@ilovefreegle.org and one of the mentor team will help.

Caretaker Groups

The Croydon team took Wandsworth and Lambeth groups from the caretaker list this month, and the Stevenage team have taken on the St Albans group as the new owners, but we’ve had some new groups added to the list too.

This month an owner who had been caring for six groups emailed mentors and said she was leaving Freegle with immediate effect. Worcester and Tamworth both had another moderator on board; both have agreed to keep the groups as their own. North Warwickshire and Chelmsley Wood have both been added to the caretaker list and we are looking for new owners for them. The other two groups, North Down and South Down, she was just helping the owner who doesn’t get online regularly, so mentors have taken them on and they have been added to the list of groups we are helping out

South Lincolnshire and Amber Valley were also declared as abandoned and Jean is now looking after them and looking for new owners.

We are currently dealing with two more possibly abandoned groups who are in the early stages of our procedure at this time.

There are currently 39 groups listed on the caretaker list needing new owners and 12 that are being cared for temporarily. These include some groups currently being cared for by non-mentors.

Since the list began, permanent new owners have been found for another 41 groups.

We come again to the list of groups under the care of caretakers. If any mod teams local to any of these groups would like to take any of these groups on as permanent new owners, please contact us.
