Sample Admin: Keep safe

This is an admin notice you can send to your whole community. Please adapt it to suit your community.

This might be a good time for a reminder about personal safety on the community. These are precautions only - Freegle is a friendly place, but it's worth staying on the safe side, so please consider these tips.

Don't post full postcodes, street addresses or phone numbers on the public board - save these for private messages. Photographs of yourself or others, especially children, shouldn't be shared publicly.

You can use the chat feature to talk to other members if you'd rather not give out your phone number or email address. Please be understanding if someone else asks this of you.

If you're concerned about meeting people alone at home, you can arrange to meet away from your home to pass on items (where practical), or make sure someone else is with you when they come round. If you're delivering to or collecting from someone's house, remember they're a stranger: take your usual precautions, and don't assume a "friendship" just because you've exchanged a few messages.

Finally, if anything about a Freegle contact concerns you, even if it's just a vague bad feeling, trust your instincts. You can give items to whoever you choose, you're under no obligation to share a phone number or social media contact, and you don't have to justify that decision to anyone. Always let the moderators know of any concerns - you may not be alone.
