There are a lot of other organisations which are encouraging environmental and community awareness in various ways. Here are a few:

Freecycle http://www.freecycle.org/ - "It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers (them's good people). Membership is free."

FreeSharing.org http://www.freesharing.org/ - "The sites featured on FreeSharing.org are all locally owned, grassroots groups, working to help their neighbors and the environment by keeping usable items out of the landfill by passing them along to people who can use them."

Give or Take http://giveortake.org/ - "Give or Take is a simple way for people to give away things they don't need or take things they do."

Reuseit Network http://www.reuseitnetwork.org/uk - "The ReUseIt Network is an on-line forum that serves as a tool to make connections between community members who want to help each other, themselves, and their environment."

Snaffleup http://www.snaffleup.co.uk/ - "Here at SnaffleUp, 'the recycling web site', we make it easy for you to do your bit for the environment by putting items you no longer need back on the market. By offering free recycled goods we can help reduce the growing landfill problem, while giving your unwanted possessions a new lease on life with people who will make good use of them."

Streetbank http://www.streetbank.com/ - "Streetbank shows you all the things and skills your neighbours are offering. It’s a giant garden shed, toolkit, fancy dress chest, book and DVD library and skills bank for your neighbourhood."

Streetlife http://www.streetlife.com/ - " the local social network, has a simple aim: to help people across Britain make the most of where they live by connecting and sharing with their neighbours. The website provides a free and easy place for residents, community groups, local government representatives and businesses to share practical information, advice, skills and resources."
