Freegle Mobile app
The Freegle Mobile phone app provides access to Freegle communities on Android and Apple iOS phones and tablet devices.
Current Versions:
- 18.8.24 - Android 3.2.4

18.8.24 - new presentation of posts (2 coloumns) and updated advert presentation.
1.8.24 - fix for photo upload issue in chats.
28.7.24 3.1.22 - fix for chitchat issue. This version was made mandatory to stop using the UploadCare photo uploader. Anyone on an older version of the app will be shown a message that upgrading is required in order to do anything.
27.7.24 3.1.21 update - latest in update to accommodate photo uploading, display and storage.
18.5.24 3.1.14,11.6.24 3.1.15 and 14.6.24 3.1.16 updates, catchup on website changes.
5.5.24 3.1.13 update, should sort the recent problems with photo uploads. And it includes other website fixes.
18.4.24 3.1.12 update, catching up with the latest website developments and some fixes.
28.2.24 3.1.10 update released to reinstate the ads that were missing.
25.2.24 3.1.9 update included various website updates, but still has an unresolved issue about opening shortlinks, eg to posters and business cards.
On iOS 17 it lets you Add to Calendar for agreed handover date-time-s again; there’s supposed to be an option to only enable adding events but I (Chris) couldn’t get this working, so the app asks for Full Access.to the calendar if you want to add such an event. You can turn Full Access on and off via iOS phone Settings.
Notes:
On 13.9.22, Google Play Store says that the Freegle app on Android has 29,223 installs and ModTools 131 installs. There isn’t comparable info for iOS, though there are various stats available, eg almost 24,000 downloads of the Freegle app in the last year.
On 29.11.22, Google Play Store for the apps on Android was showing 100k+ downloads and ModTools 100+.

ModTools app

- Show quicker chat review
- Handle system-added community events
- Change wording on publicity posts.

15.4.24 - sorts the “View message on Modtools” bug - and has other updates.

Features
The Freegle app uses the same code as the main Freegle website and so generally has the same functionality and look-and-feel as the main website when used on a mobile device.
Where needed, the app has changed or additional functionality for phone use, such as:
- Receiving notifications
- Log in within app, including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Sign in with Apple on iOS
- Share posts using other phone apps
- Direct access to take photos
- Opens website links within the app
- Save handover events to calendar
