Shortlinks
About Shortlinking
Shortlinks are short URLs which redirect to a longer URL. They are used to make it easier to remember or type web addresses. URL shortening services emerged several years ago with tinyurl.com. Nowadays other sites such as bit.ly are more popular.
Freegle Shortlinks
Using shortlinks can be useful for a Freegle mod in a number of ways. For example:
- Externally to Freegle they are especially useful when print publishing the address for a local group. http://Freegle.in/Anywhere is much easier for a new member to remember and type then a long group URL.
- Internally within Freegle they provide convenient access to commonly used web pages, such as Freegle UK Central or our Who's Who spreadsheet.
A URL shortlinking service has been setup for Freegle using the domains freegle.in and freegle.it / frgl.it.
Freegle.in shortlinks are being maintained for all groups and provide redirects to each group's page. To see the currently configured link or request a change, please visit http://freegle.in.
