Job Description
Location: Remote
Reports to: Freegle Board
Job Type: (Part-time) average 1-2 hours per week
Job Purpose:
The Governance Wonk is responsible for ensuring that Freegle operates within the UK legal and regulatory framework. This role supports the Board in maintaining high standards of governance, compliance, and transparency. The Governance Wonk will ensure that all governance processes are followed and that Freegle’s activities align with its mission, values, and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1. Governance and Compliance
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure Freegle complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including legislative and charity law,
- Policy Development: Assist in the development, review, and implementation of governance policies and procedures.
- Risk Management: Support the identification and management of risks, ensuring that risk registers are maintained and regularly reviewed.
- 2. Strategic Planning and Reporting
- Monthly & Annual Reporting: Assist with the preparation and submission of a monthly board report and an annual report for the AGM.
- Strategic Support: Work with the Board to ensure the charity’s strategic plan is aligned with governance best practices.
- Internal Audits: Conduct regular internal audits to ensure adherence to governance policies and identify areas for improvement.
3. Communication and Stakeholder Management - Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong working relationships with the Freegle Board, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
Person Specification:
- Experience
- Experience: Experience in governance, compliance, or a related role, preferably within the charity or non-profit sector.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of charity law, governance best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Skills and Competencies
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in record-keeping and document preparation.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyse governance issues and provide practical solutions.
- IT Proficiency: Competent in using Google Docs, MS Office Suite, and Zoom.
