* This is entirely an issue for members, who may need to register - most commonly if they're doing this as part of their business. See this link for more detail.

* More generally, everyone using Freegle has a Duty of Care to dispose of waste responsibly. See this link for details.

* Local Freegle-affiliated communities, and Freegle nationally, are under no legal obligation to register themselves, to verify members' registration status, or to make sure members know their obligations under the Duty of Care.

So you can allow scrap metal posts if you want, and you might choose to point out to people asking for scrap that they may need to register - but you're also fine not worrying about it at all."

Additional information, 2022: if someone carries scrap metal as part of a business or for profit, and it isn't scrap they created themselves, they must hold an upper tier waste carrier licence. The registration number always starts with CBDU.
