Update October 2023

Twitter was bought by Elon Musk, renamed to X, and currently is rapidly declining in use and usefulness.

Cat posted about this on a Central conversation about whether we should replace our Twitter/X presence on social media with another platform. Cat updated us on her position about this - https://discourse.ilovefreegle.org/t/replacement-for-twitter/6663/36 - and others offered other insights and experience.

The Board voted to stop Twitter integration in November 2023, which means all local pages are no longer linked via Modtools. The national Twitter account remains. https://discourse.ilovefreegle.org/t/replacement-for-twitter/6663/56

Many groups are setting up Twitter accounts, and finding local stuff to follow. I usually chose local Freegle groups, Local Councils & Councillors, your local MP.s and maybe any interested in the environment. You local political parties, (don't forget the green party). Local firms, and Local people who don't use bad language. Then find your local radio stations, reporters, bloggers, and anything else you can think of. Some will find you back and sometimes retweet your posts.

I have seen some very good responses from councillors and reporters, and it has led to me getting a new moderator too.

I can help you get set up, if you want an account but don't have time. Just mail jean.quinn1@gmail.com
