iOS apps that offer a sign-in feature are required to provide a "Sign in with Apple" (SIWA) option, letting you register using your Apple credentials, a bit like signing in with Facebook or Google. This is supported natively on devices running iOS 13 or later. (SIWA can also be implemented for older iOS, Android and the web, but Freegle hasn't done this yet.)
If you sign in via SIWA in the iOS app, you won't be able to sign in the same way in a browser, though you can still use another method (e.g. email and password) if your Freegle account is set up for it - you can set a password in Settings to enable email/password sign-in.
Hiding your email: private relay service
With Sign in with Apple, you can choose to share your email address with Freegle or hide it. If you hide it, Apple's Private Relay service gives Freegle a substitute address such as ghjhgjhgjhg@privaterelay.appleid.com. Notification emails sent to that address are forwarded to you; replies you send are forwarded back to Freegle by the relay service.

- You should now be signed in to the Freegle app.
Removing permission

- To fully remove permission, go to https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage in your browser.

- Find Freegle in the list and click it.
- You can then choose to "Stop using Apple ID" if you wish.
