Freegle is the only UK-run network facilitating the free re-use of legal goods via locally run web groups. We are a massive grass roots initiative that is leading environmentally positive action across the UK. In less than 6 months, since it was decided to have a unique network for the UK, we have topped the 1 million member mark. We are flourishing with over 220 independent groups spread throughout Scotland, Wales, NI and England. The amount of goods that we ensure are reused rather than thrown away is also happily growing.

One person’s trash can now become another person’s treasure in Enfield following the local launch of an ingenious recycling scheme called Freegle.
Freegle groups also foster community spirit, lessen mindless consumerism, assist the economically challenged, reduce the load on local councils and encourage a more sustainable lifestyle...all done locally by locals and all done for free.

The Enfield Freegle group is open to anyone who wants to ‘recycle’ items they no longer need, rather than throw them away.
Freegle members can save money, time, energy and the planet - at the same time!

Freegle is made up of local groups, run by volunteers, which offers an online board where members can post ‘offers of items’ or ‘wants for items’. The rules are simple: items must be freely given, legal, and keep something out of a landfill tip.
We encourage individuals, families, businesses, charities, households and other organisations to join their local Freegle group and start offering up any unwanted items (that they have and don't want) to other members in their group. Or if there’s some item members are looking for then they can ask for it on their Freegle group too.

Whether it’s a Karaoke machine, chair, piano or an old door, you can offer it to members of the groupOr maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself – like a new kitchen sink.
So whether it be a TV, empty moving boxes, clothing, sports equipment, DIY materials, a household full of furniture, some dishwasher tablets, office equipment, fresh squid or an old WWII shelter it is possible to give it away or get it for free via Freegle, instead of it going to waste at the tip or languishing unused.

Freegle is organised by about 400 volunteers who have all helped to democratically establish the only successful UK re-use network. They are all passionate about providing a free and easy way for people to give and get stuff in their own area. We have been working together tirelessly these past 5 months to improve our groups and to establish a fair and appropriate re-use network especially for the UK.

Alexander Rainbow, who started the Enfield group said: “Freegle is a great idea and I firmly believe in recycling, so I volunteered to start a group because there wasn’t one in this area.  Already we’ve got 180 members since we started last month and numbers go up every day. Everyone in the area is welcome to join, including non profit groups like school and charities.”
So, if you’d like help us celebrate this awesome milestone or find out more, please contact:

Alexander added: “We’ve had all manner of things looking for a new home including the Karaoke machine, a chain saw, and a computer; everyone has unwanted goods lying around like children’s toys and old hobby equipment, and it is very satisfying to pass something on to someone who needs it.

“Requests for items have ranged from a darts mat, paving slabs, to a kitchen sink!  Most items find new homes really quickly and people who ‘want’ things are rarely disappointed.”

There are xxx Freegle groups in the UK and well over a million members with numbers growing all the time.  It is estimated that 2.19 million items will find new owners in the UK this year, saving 18,331 tonnes of waste.
