The Freegle Mobile phone app provides access to Freegle Direct (FD) communities on Android, Apple iOS and Kindle phone and tablet devices. Supported devices (at 6.7.22, Freegle version 2.0.104, ModTools version 0.3.78):

  • Android 5.1 which first appeared on March 2, 2015
  • iOS 11 though in practice only iOS 12 is supported by Apple.
  • Kindle Fire (not 1st generation)

Users can find the app by searching for Freegle in their app store. The android app is available in any country's Google Play store. These links are also available:

Most recent Android, iPhone, iPod, iPad and Kindle Fire devices are supported. You can sign in with your existing Freegle email and password - or using Facebook, Google or Yahoo.

The app lets you post a message and take a photo, look at what's on the community, ask for items and work with messages about your offers and requests.

Developer versions

The Android development build can be installed by anyone with the link; installation of apps from unknown sources must be enabled

The iOS development build can only be installed on devices which are known to the developer ie where the UDID has been provided. Use iTunes to find your UDID: http://whatsmyudid.com/ or this technique http://get.udid.io/


Functionality

  • First time user: find nearest FD communities, preview items, register using Facebook, Google, Yahoo or email/password and join community
  • Existing user: Sign in using Facebook, Google, Yahoo or email/password.
  • View current posts, inc search and All/Wanted/Offers. Load new messages; Load more messages. Shows photos on post (tap to expand). Shows map (tap to open Google maps in browser). Reply (if not your post).
  • Send OFFER or REQUEST to one of your communities with optional photo. If offline, then post is queued for delivery when online.
  • My posts shows the correspondence about the posts you started (with unread messages in bold)
  • Menu provides access to all pages, inc Sign out option
  • Accessibility page lets you set text zoom
  • View and edit current settings
  • Change mail settings for a community, Leave a community, join another community, Unsubscribe completely
  • Send contact message to community owner. If offline, then message is queued for delivery when online.
  • Send App Feedback - includes the internal log.
  • Support Us options allows user to do in-app purchase which will remove the "Support Us" footer
