Working Groups are designed to focus on particular areas/topics, to keep the traffic on the Central group down to manageable levels.

They are open to all Freegle members; see here for the membership policy.

* Freegle Media - A Freegle Working Group to help raise Freegle's media profile and improve visibility of Freegle generally, with an aim to increase member subscriptions.

* Freegle People - A group to help look after our family of autonomous Freegle groups. This group would support our mods day to day needs in whatever way they needed and sort out disputes between groups. Draft guidelines about how Freegle groups should/could work, how to deal with complaints, guidance on how to moderate Freegle groups, data protection policies, and any other guidelines which would help Freegle groups work better need to be drafted. Open to all FreegleUK members who are interested.

* Freegle Start - A group to address the issue of affiliating new groups (and other associations) to Freegle. The group needs to propose guidelines on which groups should be agreed to be under the umbrella of Freegle. When adopted, they then need to agree new groups according to the guidelines. Open to all FreegleUK members who are interested.

* Freegle Structure - A group to help develop proposals for how Freegle will work as an organisation.

* Freegle Tech - A working group for technical discussions about tools/websites etc. Open to all FreegleUK members who are interested.

* Freegle Legal - A group of volunteers (not necessarily moderators) to help advise on legal issues affecting Freegle. Open to all members on Central to read, and people with legal expertise to post.
There are over 245 independent groups spread throughout Scotland, Wales, NI and England and we have over 1 million members. So XXXXXXX Freegle is part of a very popular modern activity! Making good use of stuff that we all already have by making sure that stuff is not unnecessarily dumped at the tip or lying around not being used. You would be amazed at what you can get rid of and what you can get. The amount of goods that we ensure are reused rather than thrown away is growing every day. It is really easy to be part of XXXXXXX Freegle. You’ll need access to a computer and an email address. Upon joining the group, you’ll receive easy instructions on how everything works and what to do. MOD’s NAME from WHERE……is your local group owner and he/she is a helpful and experienced Freegler who will help you get started if you are new to it. So don’t be shy… join up, it really is easy and fun.

Freegle groups also foster community spirit, lessen mindless consumerism, assist the economically challenged, reduce the burden on local council’s resources and encourage a more sustainable lifestyle... all done locally by locals and all done for free! So by joining up to the XXXXXX Freegle Group you may even meet neighbours and discover positive initiatives going on in your area along the way.

Whether you are an individual, family, old or young, a local organization, sports club, charity, rich or poor or a business you can benefit from joining and start to offer any unwanted items you have to the other members in the XXXXXX group. Other members will email you if they are interested in the item you offer and arrange to collect it from you. Or if there’s some item you are looking for then you can ask for those things too… someone just may have what you are looking for, and no longer need it themselves.
So whether it be a TV, empty moving boxes, clothing, sports equipment, DIY materials, a household full of furniture, toys, books, some dishwasher tablets, office equipment, fresh squid or an old WWII shelter it is possible to give it away or get it for free via XXXXXX Freegle, instead of it going to waste at the tip or languishing unused.

Freegle members can save money, time, energy and the planet – all at the same time!
From Karaoke machine to kitchen sink, turn your trash into treasure by joining Freegle in Enfield

One person’s trash can now become another person’s treasure in Enfield following the local launch of an ingenious recycling scheme called Freegle.

The Enfield Freegle group is open to anyone who wants to ‘recycle’ items they no longer need, rather than throw them away.

Freegle is made up of local groups, run by volunteers, which offers an online board where members can post ‘offers of items’ or ‘wants for items’. The rules are simple: items must be freely given, legal, and keep something out of a landfill tip.

Whether it’s a Karaoke machine, chair, piano or an old door, you can offer it to members of the group. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself – like a new kitchen sink.

Alexander Rainbow, who started the Enfield group said: “Freegle is a great idea and I firmly believe in recycling, so I volunteered to start a group because there wasn’t one in this area. Already we’ve got 180 members since we started last month and numbers go up every day. Everyone in the area is welcome to join, including non profit groups like school and charities.”

Alexander added: “We’ve had all manner of things looking for a new home including the Karaoke machine, a chain saw, and a computer; everyone has unwanted goods lying around like children’s toys and old hobby equipment, and it is very satisfying to pass something on to someone who needs it.

“Requests for items have ranged from a darts mat, paving slabs, to a kitchen sink! Most items find new homes really quickly and people who ‘want’ things are rarely disappointed.”

There are xxx Freegle groups in the UK and well over a million members with numbers growing all the time. It is estimated that 2.19 million items will find new owners in the UK this year, saving 18,331 tonnes of waste.

To join, visit website www.ilovefreegle.org and look for Enfield in Greater London listings.

Jonholyfield: /* Phase Two */ Typo fix

Speaking to the right person is paramount. Check out their web site or ring the switchboard and ask to be put through to the head of the environment. You won't get through to them but you will get through to the right dept. Don't be dispirited.

Phase One
Make initial contact:

* Get a name and e-mail of the head honcho in the environment dept.

* Email a link and ask if they will put a link to your group in the recycle section of their web site. Invite them to join.

* If they are evasive point out that your group is helping them enormously in helping them meet their landfill reduction quotas.

* Be nice (yeah I know - GRIN).

* Ask if they would like a link to the Council Re-cycling page on your site.

Phase Two
Get a bit more persistant

* You have local papers with letters pages? Write and ask why the council refuses to engage with you.

* Do they have a website ? Is there a feedback or forum page? Ask the questions there.
Essentially make yourself a PITA.

Phase Three
Still getting nowhere ? OK time to get tough.

* Go to your local M.P.'s surgery. Raise it with him/her, the political party (whilst Green would be nice) is not important. You know how to put the case or you would not be here.

* Speak to your local council elected bods. They are not scary (on the whole) just members of the public like you and me. Their details should be on your local Council website if you don't know who they are.

That is what we elect these people for and they tend to be dedicated individuals (or loonies who are willing to spend hours a month on a thankless and....ah Hmmmm)

Sit back and wait for the Council to contact you.
