* apply a very light touch moderation process only, with the priority to keep Central as unmoderated as possible
* only use moderation when messages are abusive, overtly aggressive or threatening

Thanks for supporting us at xxxx Freegle through 2015 – we've come a long way from the X messages posted in our first month in 20xx. The board now regularly sees xxxx messages each month and by our estimates we've kept nearly xxxx kg from landfill in just the last month! (equivalent to xxx grandfather clocks).

We have over xxxx members – but that means there's still over xxxx people in xxxx who have yet to start freegling - please spread the word. You can use the 'invite' button on Freegle Direct to invite all your friends and family to Freegle - there's an option to link them with their local group if they don't live nearby.

Unused and Redundant National Groups Procedure

This procedure does not apply to dormant or abandoned local Freegle reuse groups.

Yahoo or Google groups set up in the name of Freegle nationally (for Teams, Working Groups etc) which end up unused or made redundant should have ownership passed to centralmods@ilovefreegle.org and board@ilovefreegle.org addresses. The members of the group will be consulted either before change of ownership or, if this is not practical, after to ensure that there is general agreement to close it. The group will be set to full moderation to effectively 'close' the group without deleting the archive of information. Access to the archives will be available to the members of the group, and to Freegle Volunteers by request to the owner address. The home page of the group will be changed to reflect its status and a pointer to a replacement group given if that is applicable.

Groups set up specifically to deal with appeals or personal information will be kept by the owner for a period of not less than 6 months after the last message is posted relating to the appeal or sensitive situation. The group members should preferably set a minimum time limit for keeping the group open as part of their work. The group can then be deleted, after notifying the Board at least 7 days before doing so.

All groups that have been archived or deleted will be listed on the Freegle wiki.

Theoretically car seats, crash helmets and cot mattresses are allowed on Freegle Groups; the general feeling on Freegle UK Central is to leave the decision on whether to take a seat/mattress/crash helmet or not to the member who wants it, so leaving the members to decide on whether or not they wish to take the possible risks. However, many of these issues are emotive. If you have strong feelings about the use of any of these items you can chose to not to allow them on your group. You may wish to consider polling your members first.

Also, by limiting the things that are allowed for safety reasons we can be, by implication, suggesting that all other things are safe. Once you start doing that where do you stop?

Tip: one solution is to add a 'mod edit' to posts when you catch them in pending, pointing out the risks of using seconding hand car seats and cot mattresses.

In the Department's view, the simple distribution of second-hand furniture by a charity in pursuance of its charitable objectives to needy persons, either free of charge or at a nominal amount only, would be unlikely to constitute a supply in the course of business. On the other hand, shops selling furniture to raise funds for charitable purposes would constitute a business activity and the
Regulations will apply to the furniture sold in this case. Individual charities should take legal advice.
