To tell the Freegle server that you want notifications, enter your modding email and press '''Connect'''. If successful, the screen either shows "Success" or "Connected".

Chriscant: Add new page about new version of ModTools app.

The ModTools app for Android and iOS was first released in 2016.
The app has the functionality of the modtools.org website with extra app features such as notifications when there is work to do.

This version of the ModTools app shows the live ModTools website within the app, as well as handling push notifications.
So: the app is always up-to-date with the latest ModTools website changes.
The app should need updating less often.

On first use, this screen shows

You can opt to Start ModTools straight away if you wish.
However it is recommended that you enter your email address and press Connect to set up notifications.
If this is successful then "Success" appears at the bottom.
If you return to this screen then the message says "Already connected".

If you restart ModTools having successfully connected then the initial screen does not show; instead you are taken straight into ModTools.
If you need to return to this screen then you can close the ModTools window using the X in Android or Done in iOS.

=== Using ModTools ===

When you press Start ModTools for the first time then you will have to sign into ModTools.
Currently only a Freegle login and Yahoo login seem to work.
Once logged in you may use ModTools as normal.

If a work notification arrives while not on the app, then tapping on the notification will start the app and show the relevant ModTools screen.
If you are currently using the app, the screen will not change if you tap on the notification.

Note that opening external links within ModTools will not open the links in another page eg in Chrome or Safari. Instead they will replace the current screen; you can return by swiping back.

The tenth AGM of Freegle Ltd will be held 4th September to 6th September 2024 inclusive on the Freegle Discourse discussion group. As detailed in our Rules under [http://wiki.ilovefreegle.org/Rules#Retirement_Cycle Retirement Cycle], two elected Directors are obliged to stand down. We have had 7 elected Directors over this past term, and 1 co-opted Director, which means 2 elected Directors are standing down, plus the co-option period ends at the AGM. We therefore have 4 vacancies for the coming term.

a. Voting validation should take no longer than 1 day. Results will be posted as soon as possible.

b. If there are fewer or equal number of candidates for vacancies, the Chair will declare them as 'elected unopposed' at the AGM and they will take their posts as Directors without the need for a poll/election vote.

== Candidates ==

Nominations should be made as follows:

*Nominated candidates must be Members of Freegle Ltd (see [[Rules]] 53 and 54).
*Nominations may be made via Freegle Central or directly to the Returning Officer email address.
*Nominations may either be made by the candidate (self nominated) or another Freegle Member.
*Nominations should include the nominator's and nominee's full name and email address.
*If another individual is being nominated, any relevant internal or external group membership should be noted.
*Nominations should be seconded by another Member. This can occur on either Freegle Central or directly to the Returning Officer email address.
*All nominations will be confirmed by the Returning Officer to the candidate, seconder and to Freegle Central (regardless of where the nomination was made).

Chriscant: Change to geeks not showing

There has always been a small team which will reply to requests for Freegle Graphics (e.g. a Freegle heart with "xyz Freegle" inside). This is not a working group, but a small team that does some specific work.

A new closed discussion group was set up in September 2020 after a UK wide request was sent out to members. It is at https://groups.io/g/FreegleGraphics and is set up to do photoshop stuff for Freegle. The request was:

When you hold an event to promote your community, you could be covered by Freegle's Insurance as long as you provide some basic information and follow these guidelines.

===Getting covered by Insurance===

Please don't assume that everything you are doing as a volunteer is covered by the national insurance policy. Of course, in the average day of running a community there is very little risk of an insurance claim by or against you. But when you run an event or deal with things face to face the risks are increased so Freegle has Employers Liability and Public Liability cover. To use this you need to email board@ilovefreegle.org. You will need to give at least 7 days notice of the event so that there is time to complete the process, but sooner than that would be better. 
The basic procedure for a community/volunteer is: 
* If you want cover for an event, email board@ilovefreegle.org to say so.

The Freegle Mobile phone app provides access to Freegle communities on Android and Apple iOS phones and tablet devices.

Current Versions:
*10.01.24 - Freegle - Android: 3.1.6
*10.01.24 - Freegle - iOS 3.1.6
This includes various website updates including the simpler Browse page.
On iOS 17 it lets you Add to Calendar for agreed handover date-time-s again; there’s supposed to be an option to only enable adding events but I (Chris) couldn’t get this working, so the app asks for Full Access.to the calendar if you want to add such an event. You can turn Full Access on and off via iOS phone Settings.

Note: on 13.9.22, Google Play Store says that the Freegle app on Android has 29,223 installs and ModTools 131 installs.
There isn’t comparable info for iOS, though there are various stats available, eg almost 24,000 downloads of the Freegle app in the last year.

On 29.11.22, Google Play Store for the apps on Android was showing 100k+ downloads and ModTools 100+.

Supported devices:
* Android 5.1 which first appeared on March 2, 2015 (or later)
* iOS 13+ is supported for Apple iOS devies

There is also a ModTools app for Freegle volunteers:

== About Discourse ==

[https://www.discourse.org/ Discourse] is open source software, started in 2013. It is run by a private business currently with a team of 33 staff who earn their keep by hosting Discourse for US$100+ per month. They are committed to keeping Discourse open-source and provide regular updates which are easily installed. Freegle uses the open-source version so there are no fees to pay. We do pay a small amount for our own backups and sending emails, as well as some paid geek-time.

Discourse updates are notified to admins. Some updates can be installed by any admin; others will need to be done by geeks. There may be a small amount of down time during upgrades.

Discourse has many many configuration options, controllable by admins. In addition, Discourse can be "programmed". The API was used by the geeks to set up all the user accounts and set the right email choices. The theme appearance of the site has been tweaked.

== Resilience ==

It is important that the Freegle Discourse system is resilient and independent of the main Freegle servers, so we can communicate if they are down!

Discourse runs on a Bytemark server that is separate from the main Freegle servers in a separate data centre. Discourse is configured to back up all its data every day overnight. The data file is then automatically backed up to Google cloud storage. Five backups are kept on the main Discourse server. The Google cloud keeps all the daily backups for 90 days. Restoring from a backup has been tested. If data has to be restored, any discussions or setting changes since the backup will be lost.

You can still log in to Discourse even if MT is down. This is partly done by Discourse remembering your login in a cookie. In addition the Discourse server remembers the MT logins every 30 minutes to use if someone needs to login when the site is down.

To cope in the event that the main Discourse server is unavailable for some time, a second Discourse instance has been set up on one of the main Freegle servers. This standby instance can be brought into service by the geeks fairly quickly using the last available good backup, ie the snapshot taken overnight.

== Mail in and out ==

Discourse sends mail out and can receive receive mail in. Both these processes are independent of the normal Freegle email facilities.

Mail is sent using a Mailgun account which costs us a little each month.

Mail is received at a Google hosted mailbox called discoursereplies as described elsewhere. The mailbox is polled every few minutes for mails to process.
