Special Notices

From Freegle Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

These are messages sent out by the group moderators. Yahoo offers you, as a moderator, the option to send out a message by special notice if you compose the message via the 'Post' option on the left hand menu bar. There is a small tick box at the bottom of the message. All your members, except those that have set themselves to 'no email' will get the special notice message, including any members you have on Freegle Direct (if you are using that facility).

It is probably good practice for all your members to be set to a minimum of special notices as it does help you communicate with your group.

No mail to Special Notices

If you are using the Mod Plug-in, it can be used to change anyone on 'no email' to 'special notices', although it can take some time so should be run when you don't need to moderate.

You can also change members manually by going through your members list. However it does take a long time after your group has reached a few hundred (!), so better to spot them as they join.

Frequency

As some members resent receiving them, it might be best to use Special notices only sparingly.

You will often find some members unsubscribe after you send out a special notice. This is usually because they only then realise they are still a member!

Often you will find you get complaints about 'no shows', suspected traders, members being ill mannered etc. You may not feel you have enough evidence or cause to confront the members directly, so it often mollifies the complainant and prevents the situation escalating if you put a general special notice out about the issue.

Do remember also to use them to congratulate the group when everything is going well, as they do appreciate these and they can help with correct posting etc.

To send a special notice just do a post when logged in with your moderator ID. Put 'Admin' at the beginning of the subject line, be courteous and tick the special notice box at the bottom.
