No mail to Special Notices

Using the Plug-in

Moderators usually insist that members are on a minimum of special notices. This is to ensure that they can contact all members when they send out admin notices. It will also help identify spammers who often opt for no email and bouncing members as they will only show as bouncing if email is sent out to them. It is suggested to include this preference in your group guidelines.

If you have the [moderators plug-in] it is fairly easy to do a regular check and change any no email settings found to be special notices instead. It is recommended to do this about once per month to keep on top of it and so that it doesn't take too long to do. You will need to leave it running for some time as, to prevent Yahoo from interfering, the plug-in can only make one change every 30 seconds.

  1. Click on the members tab on the left hand side.
  2. With the plug-in on, use the scroll button in the top right corner to find the No email to web and click on it.
  3. You will be provided with a box to exclude and specific email addresses. Moderators and owners are automatically excluded however.

The plug-in quickly tells you how many require changing and gives you a list. If you want to print this list out, or copy and paste into a spreadsheet and see who has modified their settings again the next time you run it, it may be a useful indicator.

You can just leave the plug-in to run and do its job.

Managing Manually

If you don't have the plug-in you can do it manually. Click on the date at the top of the members page until you have the newest ones first. Just look at those with special notices and change them. If you keep a list and check only the more recent and those that you changed previously, I recommend writing to those who re-offend and informing them that is is a requirement of membership that they are able to receive any admins sent to them.
