Remit of the Freegle Tech Working Group
As drafted by the Freegle Tech Working Group and submitted to the Freegle Reps on 24 January 2010:
- Freegle Tech is a forum for discussing any technical aspects of running Freegle, either existing technologies or new initiatives. Example existing technologies include the Freegle web site and Yahoo groups. New initiatives might include mobile applications or social media.
- Although advice will be freely given, regular technical support will be best provided on dedicated forums such as: Moderator add-on, Home page help, etc.
- Any technical efforts to maintain existing systems or develop new systems should primarily be organised here. However sub-groups may be set up for specific projects for those involved - and anyone else interested. Project teams may assign roles to individuals.
- We will aim to document our systems, eg on a wiki.
- [Is this appropriate/desired?] For any new developments, we will aim to use the open source model, making the system available to others outside Freegle if appropriate.
- Where possible we will try to ensure teams of people work on tasks, both to allow volunteers time off and to cope if someone is unable to continue. We will ensure that Freegle technical resources have shared access so systems will survive if someone becomes unavailable.
- Any financial and legal commitments for Freegle must have prior approval from the Reps initially - with referral to Freegle Central if appropriate.
- Freegle Tech will act on requests from the Reps, Freegle Central and other working groups. It will also take the lead when appropriate in suggesting new possibilities.
- Any significant proposals will be referred to the Reps and Freegle Central for approval.
- We welcome all Freegle moderators as members, even if not taking part regularly. We may work with people outside Freegle, after checking within the group and elsewhere.
- We will report back to Freegle Central at appropriate intervals, eg every 3 months at a minimum.
