Remit of the Freegle People Working Group when operational

As drafted by the Freegle People Working Group and submitted to the Freegle Reps on 1 February 2010:

The People Working group is a group to help look after our family of autonomous Freegle groups. This group will draft guidelines on:

  1. How to support our mods day to day needs in whatever way they needed - this was discussed at length on October 2009, but a conclusion was not reached - we need to make some specific recommendations. See also point 7.
  2. How Freegle groups should/could work. Caroline is covering this in the handbook
  3. How to moderate Freegle groups. Caroline & the handbook again, but more along the lines of options rather than dictats.
  4. Data protection policies, but in practice, this will need to be covered by our Legal group)
  5. How to promote co-operation between neighbouring groups; so avoiding misunderstandings and disputes.
  6. How to deal with complaints. Member complaints are covered by Caroline in the handbook; we have not yet reached a conclusion on our recommendation for an appeals procedure, which would mainly be for appeals following non-admission to listing, or de-listing.
  7. Create and maintain a register of people who would be willing to be Mod Buddies and help out people starting new groups. This isn't an issue at the moment, as most of the Freegle Mods are old hands, but when we start to admit a lot of new groups, our expertise can be offered.
  8. Possibly to act as a support group for owners/mods - to use Jean's words "developing to become the place for moderator support and uncontentious advice. I would like it to be used as the place for keeping records for volunteers to offer their services and for the other groups to come for documents to be submitted for inclusion. I would like it to be a place for all moderators to come for support, advice, buddies, help with appeals etc. If anything is done at regional level I would like this group to provide the back up support." Some felt, however, that this should not be mixed with the work of discussing policy and drafting guidelines."
